Road Trip to Turner Field
Turner Field, one of the newer ballparks, is very comfortable, with wide
concourses, many venues for food, and
Concessions and bathrooms are easy to reach. Microbrews were bottled; I
didn't see anything on tap, but the beer was good.
Limited vegetarian fare. One can move around seats easily in the lower
deck if the park isn't crowded. There are no specific
distinctive features of the park, but all in all it's a fine venue to
watch a game. Baseball is big in Atlanta.
I can't say as I liked the tomahawk thing, but it's part of the tradition.
While Atlanta has a great public transportation system, MARTA, but it
doesn't go
to the ballpark. However, you can take MARTA right from the airport to
downtown
and the suburbs. From Five Points station in downtown, there is a
shuttlebus that runs to
the ballpark. Turner Field is just south of Atlanta. There's parking
outside the official lots in lots, for about $5.

Atlanta is a cosmopolitan city. Besides the usual shopping (think suburbs for this, not downtown), there's the
Atlanta History Center, The World of Coca-Cola,
High Museum of Art, and the Woodruff Art Center, for
haute culture. Tour the CNN Center (404) 827-2300, visit the Atlanta Botanical Garden (Piedmont Avenue at the Prado; 404-876-5859). Also good is
Fernbank, dedicated to environmental education. Has a museum of Natural History, a Science Center, Planetarium &
Observatory, and the Fernbank Forest. 767 Clifton Road NE, (404) 378-0127.
