Closest to the Ballpark
Oddly, there is not lodging right next to the park, although there's lots of
condominiums. The lodgings listed below are closer to Market Street or are in and around Union Square, which is about a 15-20 minute walk, fine
during the day but not recommended after a night game. SF is a walking town, but at night, take a cab unless you're in groups.
There is a trade-off in lodging in SF:
the fancy hotels (e.g., Hilton) have all the amenities at a price, but one of the amenities is rooms with a lot of sound insulation. The
smaller independent brands are around $150 or less a night, but you risk a lot more street or next door noise. Still, many discriminating travellers
take this option. Just make sure you request a quiet
room.
Also, it's cool in summer months here. Wear layers. Locals can always see who the tourists are: the latter are
wearing shorts and t-shirts and look uncomfortably cold. Just don't call it 'Frisco.
